Stanford, Calif. - The California softball team defeated Stanford, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader today at the Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal fall to 30-9 on the year, 3-2 in Pac-10 play while the Golden Bears improve to 34-6, 2-3 in league play.
Cal's only run came in the top of the fifth as Jessica Pamanian scored on a wild pitch.
Senior Jessica Allister led the Cardinal with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate. She now has strung together six consecutive hits. Elizabeth Bendig had a 1-for-3 day as well.
Dana Sorensen (18-5) took the loss for the Cardinal allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts on the afternoon. Kelly Anderson picked up the win for the Golden Bears, going sevening innings while allowing only four hits with four strikeouts.
The two teams will now play the second game of the doubleheader at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.
