Stanford, Calif. - Sophomore Laura Severson pitched a four-hit shutout as the Stanford softball team defeated Sacramento State, 2-0, in the second game of a doubleheader this evening at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 32-10 on the season.
Lindsay Key walked to open the bottom of the third inning and Shoney Hixson came in as a pinch runner. Heather Shook and Jackie Rinehart singled to load the bases. Katherine Hoffman walked to bring home Hixson. Catalina Morris hit a sacrifice fly to score Shook.
Sophomore Laura Severson (11-5) picked up with win in the circle, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Taking the loss for the Hornets was pitcher Jennifer Fryou (2-3) who allowed two runs on six hits over six innings of work.
Catalina Morris went 1-for-2 with an RBI while Heather Shook had a 1-for-3 night at the plate with a run scored. Elizabeth Bendig had a 1-for-1 effort.
The Cardinal are back in action on Friday, April 17 against Arizona at 7 p.m. in Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.
