Sorensen Records 1,000th Career Strikeout In 4-0 Win Over Sac State

Stanford, Calif. - Catcher Jessica Allister went 2-for-2 with four RBI as the Stanford softball team defeated Sacramento State, 4-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 31-10 on the year while the Hornets fall to 29-18.

The Cardinal got on the board first, scoring three in the bottom of the first inning. Jackie Rinehart, Katherine Hoffman and Catalina Morris all singled to load the bases. Lauren Lappin reached on a fielder's choice as Rinehart was out at home. Jessica Allister doubled to bring home all three runners.

Stanford put one more run on the board in the bottom of the third. Catalina Morris singled with one out. Allister picked up her fourth RBI of the evening with a single up the middle.

Senior Dana Sorensen picked up her 19th win of the season, scattering five hits over seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts. Sorensen now has 1,003 career strikeouts and becomes the first Cardinal pitcher to reach the mark. She also becomes the fourth hurler in the Pac-10 history to reach 1,000 strikeouts.

Brianne Ferguson (14-9) took the loss for the Hornets, allowing four runs on nine hits over six innings with six strikeouts on the evening.

Catalina Morris went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored while Leah Nelson had a 2-for-2 night. Katherine Hoffman had a 1-for-3 effort with a run scored.

Stanford will now face Sacramento State in the second game of the doubleheader.
