Tucson, Ariz. - The seventh-ranked Stanford softball team fell to the No. 1 ranked Arizona Wildcats, 4-0, this evening in Tucson, Ariz. The Cardinal are now 39-13 overall, 9-5 in Pac-10 play while the 'Cats improve to 48-2, 12-1 in league action.
The Wildcats got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning as Autumn Champion, Wendy Allen and Kristie Fox hit RBI singles.
Arizona added another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by MacKenzie Vandergeest.
The Cardinal were led by Leah Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt and Lauren Lappin who had a 1-for-3 day at the plate.
Sophomore Laura Severson (13-6) took the loss for Stanford, allowing four runs on 11 hits over six innings of work . Arizona's Alicia Hollowell pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while striking out 11.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Hillenbrand Stadium in the final game of the series in Tucson, Ariz.
The Cardinal host their final home regular season games next weekend, against UCLA and Washington, beginning with the Huskies on Friday night at 7 p.m.
