Eugene, Ore. - The No. 7 Stanford softball team dropped an afternoon game to the No. 12 Oregon Ducks, 1-0, in Eugene, Ore. The Cardinal are now 41-16 overall, 11-8 in the Pac-10 while the Ducks improve to 38-17, 10-9 in league play.
The pitchers on both teams dominated early in the game with neither team scoring through the first four innings of play.
In the bottom of the fifth, Oregon catcher Jenn Poore hit a double to score centerfielder Suzie Barnes from first base.
Senior hurler Dana Sorensen (26-8) took the loss for the Cardinal, allowing one run on four hits over six innings of work with nine strikeouts. Oregon's Ani Nyhus picked up the win, scattering three hits over seven shutout innings with four strikeouts.
Elizabeth Bendig, Meghan Sickler and Katherine Hoffman each went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Cardinal while Jackie Rinehart recorded a sacrifice hit as well.
Stanford is back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Oregon State, beginning a 1 p.m. in Corvallis, Ore.
