Dana Sorensen Pitches One-Hitter In Stanford 2-0 Win Over Oregon State

Corvallis, Ore. - Senior hurler Dana Sorensen pitched a one-hit gem as the Stanford softball team shutout the Oregon State Beavers, 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon in Corvallis, Oregon. The Cardinal are now 42-16, 12-8 in Pac-10 play while the Beavers are 40-25, 4-16 in league play.

Both pitchers dominated early as the game remained scoreless through the first four innings of play.

But in the top of the fifth, catcher Jessica Allister led off the inning with a line drive homerun to left centerfield. It was her eighth of the season and put Stanford up, 1-0.

In the top of the seventh, Lauren Lappin and Jessica Allister led off the inning with singles off relief pitcher Ta'Tyana McElroy to put runners at first and second. Both runners advanced a base on a ground out by Leah Nelson. Third baseman Elizabeth Bendig singled up the middle to score Lappin while Allister was called out at the plate on the throw home.

Senior Dana Sorensen (27-9) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only one hit with nine strikeouts. Her 27 wins this season ties the single season record for victories on The Farm. Oregon State's Brianne McGowan (10-6) took the loss for OSU, allowing one run on three hits in four innings of work. Relief pitcher Ta'Tyana McElroy, gave up one run on four hits over the final three innings.

Catcher Jessica Allister (Nacogdoches, TX) led the Cardinal at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and and RBI. Shortstop Lauren Lappin (Anaheim, CA) went 2-for-3 on the afternoon as well with a run scored. Elizabeth Bendig extended her current consecutive hitting streak to six games, with a 1-for-3 effort today. Meghan Sickler went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Beaver Mia Longfellow recorded OSU's lone hit in a 1-for-3 effort.

The two teams play the second game of the doubleheader to close out the regular season.
