Opelika, Ala. - The Stanford women's golf team carded a fifteen-over par 303 to sit in a tie for 14th overall after the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championship at the par-72, 6215-yard Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Alabama. Tenth-ranked Oklahoma State, which qualified in a one-hole sudden death playoff at the East Regional, fired an even par 288 to hold a one-shot lead over both No. 1 Duke and No. 2 UCLA. Rounding out the top five are Ohio State (296) in fourth and Wake Forest (298) and Vanderbilt (298) in fifth.
Ohio State's Allison Hanna is the individual leader after firing a 3-under 69, one shot ahead of a trio of players including San Jose State's Ashley Gomes, Michigan State's Allison Fouch and Florida State's Alison Curdt. Hanna birdied the second hole, double-bogeyed the par-3 third and birdied the ninth hole to make the turn at even par. The Portland, Ore., senior birdied No. 10 and No. 11 and then made her fourth-straight birdie at the par-5 12th hole. She ended her round with a bogey at No. 13, birdie at No. 15, bogey at No.17 and recorded her seventh birdie of the day at No. 18.
Leading the Cardinal today was freshman golfer Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana, who's one-over par 73 puts her in a tie for 18th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Angela Rho shot a four-over par 76 and is tied for 58th while teammates Stephanie Lue and Lauren Todd both shot a 77 and are tied for 68th. Senior Kim Kouwabunpat carded a 78 and is tied for 83rd.
Tee times for Wednesday's second round begin at 8 am Central with Duke, UCLA and Vanderbilt going off the 10th tee and Stanford, Michigan State and North Carolina off No. 1. Live-scoring of the NCAA Championship through Friday's final round can be followed on www.golfstat.com.
