Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's golf team shot a season-low round of 293 in the opening round of the 2004 NCAA Women's Golf West Regional, held at the Stanford Golf Course. Their score puts them in third place overall heading into the second round. UCLA fired a six-under par 282 on the morning and sit atop the leaderboard. California is second with a two-over par 290, followed by the Cardinal (293), Washington (298) and Pepperdine (300).
Bruin Hannah Jun carded a five-under par 67 on the day and holds a three shot lead in the individual standings. San Jose State's Ashley Gomes turned in a two-under par 7- , along with UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas to tie for second. Rounding out the top five are Ohio State's Allison Hanna (71), California's Anna Temple (71) and Washington State's Kim Welch (71).
The Cardinal were led by Stephanie Lue and Lauren Todd, who both shot an even-par 72 today, and are tied for seventh individually. Freshman Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana posted a first round score of 74 and is tied for 21st while senior Angela Rho carded a 75 and is tied for 29th. Teammate Kim Kouwabunpat is tied for 43rd with a 77.
Second round action continues tomorrow with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Stanford Golf Course.

The top eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships held at Grand National Lake Course, Opelika, Alabama, and hosted by Auburn University on May 18-21.
