STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Eddie Schultz had three hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs to help Saint John's beat UNLV 9-6 in an elimination game at the Stanford Regional on Saturday.
Jim Martin and Joe Burke each drove in two runs for the Red Storm (37-22), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Red Storm meets the loser of a later game between Long Beach State and Stanford in a late game on Saturday a berth in Sunday's championship game at stake.
Brad Ross drove in three runs for the Rebels (37-24), who lost their second straight after winning their last four regular season contests. Eric Neilsen also drove in a run for UNLV, while Andrew D'Angelo scored on a wild pitch and Peter White scored on Martin's throwing error.
Mike Rozema, Greg Thomson and Ken Devenney also drove in runs for Saint John's, who won their first NCAA tournament game since 1993, when the Red Storm defeated Cal State Northridge in the West Regional.
Justin Muir (4-0) got the win after pitching 2 2-3 innings in relief of starter Joe Reid. Craig Hansen pitched a perfect ninth for his 10th save.
David Seccombe (9-3) took the loss after allowing seven runs on 11 hits in 4 1-3 innings.
The Red Storm broke the game open with a five-run fifth, highlighted by Martin's two-run double and Burke's two-run single.
