Coed Sailors finish 10th at Nationals

June 6, 2004

Cascade Locks, Oregon - At the end of 36 races of the three-day ICSA North American Championship, the Cardinal coed sailors finished 10th of the 18 teams competing. "We battled back to 9th place," explained Head Coach Jay Kehoe, "but a late round DSQ [disqualification] in a protest we brought against Yale put us solidly in 10th."

With over 250 college sailing teams competing in 7 disticts around the US and Canada, Stanford was awarded an At-Large berth to the Nationals when they finished a close third to U Hawaii and USC at the Pacific Coast qualifiers. "Although we don't have as many teams as other areas of the country, our teams are exceptionally strong," commented Coach Jay Kehoe. The Nationals were won by U Hawaii with USC finishing 4th.

Sailing for the Cardinal in A-Division was Brian Haines with crews Caroline Young and Jen Porter. B-Division was split between two Stanford skipper/ crew combinations, Peter Deming and crew Taylor Clark sailed most races, with Emery Wager and Becca Levin sailing two sets (4 of 18 races).
