La Jolla, Ca. - Tony Azevedo scored five goals, including four in the first period, to power the second-ranked Stanford men's water polo team to a 15-7 victory over seventh-ranked UC San Diego in a non-league game Sunday afternoon.
Stanford dominated the first three periods of the contest in defeating the Tritons for the third straight time this year. Stanford led 5-1 after the first period, and extended the lead to 9-1 at halftime. Two of Stanford's four goals in the second period were scored by Peter Varellas.
Stanford scored three more times in the third period to take a 12-2 lead.
The victory upped Stanford's record to 15-2 while UC San Diego fell to 18-9.
