Corvallis, Ore. - Senior Darren Fernandez scored two goals, including an unassisted goal in the 87th minute, to lead the Cardinal to a 2-1 victory over Oregon State on Friday afternoon. With the win, Stanford improves to 6-1-3 and 1-0-1 in conference play, while the Beavers fall to 5-6-1 and 0-2-0 in Pac-10 action.

The Cardinal got on the board first in the 27th minute, when Fernandez tallied off of a Dan Shapiro corner kick. The Oregon State attack came on strong in the second half, as the Beavers out-shot the Cardinal by a 10-3 margin. Oregon State pulled even with a goal from forward Chris Murphy at the 75:32 mark. Fernandez scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season with just 3:26 left in regulation, beating two Oregon State defenders and tallying his second score of the game. Fernandez increased his Pac-10 leading goal total to seven, and is the Stanford's leading active career goal scorer with 24.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen made his first appearance in net since September 17, and collected three saves while registering his fifth win of the season. Jason Mariner and Matt Fitchett split time in net for the Beavers, and each registered a save. Oregon State out-shot the Cardinal by a 13-9 margin for the match.

Stanford continues Pac-10 conference play on Sunday, as the Cardinal travel to Seattle to face Washington at 1:00 pm.
