Cathedral City, Calif. - Sophomore centerfielder Catalina Morris homered and scored two runs as the No. 8 Stanford softball team defeated Notre Dame, 4-2, this afternoon at the Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Cardinal improve to 9-2 on the season.
Stanford scored three run in the bottom of the first inning as the Notre Dame pitcher walked Jessica Allister with the bases loaded to score Katherine Hoffman. Meghan Sickler was then walked to score Catalina Morris. Leah Nelson then hit a sacrifice fly to deep left to score Lauren Lappin.
The Cardinal scored one more insurance run in the third inning as Catalina Morris hit a homerun to rightfield.
Senior Dana Sorensen (5-2) picked up the win, pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts. Heather Booth took the loss for the Fighting Irish, going six innings with four runs allowed (two earned).
Jackie Rinehart, Katherine Hoffman, Catalina Morris and Jessica Allister each collected one hit for the Cardinal.
Stanford will face Coastal Carolina at 3:30 p.m. today in continued tournament action.
