STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford University men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over the visiting Utah Utes at Taube Tennis Center, Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinal, ranked 6th in the latest ITA national listings, improve to 6-2 on the year, while the Utes fall to 5-4.
The Cardinal swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore All-American James Pade and freshman James Wan defeated the Utes' Ryan Scott and Tomasz Grzyb, 8-6 at the No. 2 spot, while the duo of senior Carter Morris and junior Phil Sheng defeated Nick Coutts and Jason Yap, 8-2.
The Cardinal maintained the aggressive play, sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Corkery collected a 6-3, 6-1 win over Brateanu, while Pade registered a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mann at the No. 2 singles spot. Sheng cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Grzyb at No. 3 singles, while Wan continued his hot play, defeating Coutts, 6-1, 6-3. Morris record a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 singles spot over Utah's Scott, while freshman Chris Rasmussen collected a 6-4, 6-3 win over Dantley Young at the No. 6 spot.
The Cardinal finish up their five-game homestand this weekend, when they take on Arizona on Feb. 27th and Arizona State on the 28th.
