STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 6 ranked Stanford University Men's Tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over the No. 23 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils Saturday afternoon at Taube Tennis Center on the Stanford University Campus. The win was the fourth for the Cardinal in their last four matches. With the win, the Cardinal improve to 8-2 on the season, while the Sun Devils fall to 4-3.
Stanford captured the doubles point by sweeping all three of the doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, junior James Pade and freshman James Wan defeated ASU's Daniel Davies and Clinton Letcher, 8-4. The team of senior captain Carter Morris and junior Phil Sheng rolled to a 8-4 victory over the Sun Devils' Christopher Biro and Andy Colombo at No. 3 doubles, rounding out doubles play.
The Cardinal stayed aggressive in singles play sweeping all six singles matches, including five in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Warburg defeated Stewart 6-4, 6-3, while Corkery eased by Letcher 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 singles Pade defeated Colombo, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(8), while Sheng eased by Biro, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 4 sinlges action. Wan collected a 6-0, 6-4 win over Kinsella at No. 5 singles, while Morris defeated Ryan McBride 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot to round out singles play.
The Cardinal will pack their bags and head to La Jolla, California to participate in the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament on March 5-7. Stanford's next home match will be versus Baylor, Monday, March 22nd.
