No. 10 Stanford Shuts Out Illinois-Chicago 3-0

Stanford, Calif. - Freshman lead-off hitter Jackie Rinehart went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the 10th ranked Stanford softball team defeated Illinois-Chicago, 3-0, this afternoon.

The Cardinal improve to 20-5 on the season while the Flames fall to 8-14.

Stanford got on the board first as Rinehart singled to lead off the bottom of the first. Rinehart stole second and moved to third on a ground out by Catalina Morris. Lauren Lappin singled down the left field line to score Rinehart.

In the bottom of the third, Rinehart again led off the inning with a single - this time up the middle. A sacrifice bunt by Katherine Hoffman moved Rinehart to second. She advanced to third on another Morris groundout. Lappin walked to put runners on the corners. Jessica Allister then singled through the right side of the field to score Rinehart.

Allister led off the sixth inning with a walk and was pinch ran for by Shoney Hixson. Meghan Sickler then doubled to rightfield, moving Hixson to third. Leah Nelson then hit and RBI ground out to the shortstop to score Hixson.

Stanford sophomore Laura Severson picked up her seventh win on the year (7-2), scattering two hits over seven innings of work with three strikeouts. Brittany McIntyre took the loss for the Flames, allowing six hits over six innings with three runs scored.

Lauren Lappin went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Stanford while Jessica Allister, Meghan Sickler and Elizabeth Bendig each added a hit.

Stanford is back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Illinois-Chicago and will face UC Santa Barbara at 3 p.m.
