No. 10 Stanford Falls To Illinois-Chicago 3-2

Stanford, Calif. - The 10th-ranked Stanford softball team narrowly fell to Illinois-Chicago, 3-2, this afternoon on the second day of competition at the Stanford Round Robin Tournament in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal are now 20-6 on the year while the Flames improve to 10-14.

UIC scored all three runs in the third inning off of a three-run homer by Amanda Rivera.

The Cardinal got on the board in the fourth inning aftere Lauren Lappin reached on an error and Meghan Sickler doubled down the left field line to bring her home.

Stanford added one more run in the top of the sixth inning. Leah Nelson got things started with a single up the middle. Shoney Hixson pinch ran for Nelson. Elizabeth Bendig also singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Jacki Hansen pinch hit for Lindsay Key and walked to load the bases. With two outs, Katherine Hoffman hit an infield single to score Bendig.

Sophomore Laura Severson (7-3) took the loss for the Cardinal, going six innings, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings. Alison Aguilar picked up the win for the Flames, pitching a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits.

Elizabeth Bendig led the team going, 1-for-2 with a run scored on the afternoon. Katherine Hoffman added a hit in three at bats with an RBI.

Stanford closes out tournament play against UC Santa Barbara.

In the 11 a.m. game this morning, Illinois-Chicago defeated UCSB, 3-1.
