Stanford, Calif. - The fifth-ranked California softball team defeated Stanford 6-0 in the second game of a doubleheader held this afternoon at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal are now 30-10 overall, 3-3 in the Pac-10.
The Golden Bears struck in the top of the first inning, scoring two quick runs. Cal added another four in the top of the third.
Lauren Lappin and Jessica Allister each collected one hit for Stanford.
For California, Lindsay James went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Shortstop Chelsea Spencer also contributed two hits to the Bears effort.
Sophomore Laura Severson took the loss for the Cardinal allowing two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings. Kristina Thorson picked up the win for the Golden Bears, scattering two hits over seven innings with four strikeouts.
Stanford is back in action on Tuesday night in a non-conference doubleheader with Sacramento State at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium beginning at 5 p.m.
