Stanford, Calif. - The ninth-ranked Stanford softball team fell to No. 1 Arizona, 8-0, this evening in a conference matchup at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal fall to 32-11, 3-4 in the Pac-10 while the Wildcats improve to 41-1, 5-0 in league play.
Arizona scored three runs in the top of the first on a three-run homer by Wendy Allen. The 'Cats picked up two more in the top of the second, then added another run in the fifth and the final two in the sixth.
Freshman Lindsay Key went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead the Cardinal. Jackie Rinehart and Catalina Morris each went 1-for-3.
Starter Dana Sorensen (19-6) took the loss for Stanford, allowing five runs on six hits over two innings of work. Sophomore Laura Severson pitched four innings in relief with three runs scored (two earned) and three strikeouts.
Arizona's Alicia Hollowell (28-0) recorded the win for the Wildcats, scattering three hits over six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
The Wildcats were led by Wendy Allen's five RBI and Caitlin Lowe's three hits.
Stanford will take on Arizona State tomorrow at 2 p.m. in continued conference action at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.
