Dana Sorensen Throws One-Hitter In 4-0 Victory Over Arizona State

Stanford, Calif. - Senior Dana Sorensen threw a one-hit shutout as the Stanford softball team defeated Arizona State 4-0 this afternoon at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 34-11, 5-4 in the Pac-10 while the Sun Devils fall to 30-21, 0-7 in league play.

Stanford tallied its second consecutive shutout of an opponent after defeated ASU yesterday, 7-0.

The Cardinal went ahead 2-0 in the first inning off two hits. Jackie Rinehart singled, stole second and scored when Catalina Morris singled. With Morris now on third, ASU starting pitcher Bre DeSanta (9-9) walked Jessica Allister, Allister then stole second, but ASU tried to cut the play and get Morris coming home to score, but the throw was late as Morris slid under the tag.

Stanford tagged on two more in the sixth for the final 4-0 score. Morris reached on a bunt and scored when Lauren Lappin tripled to right field. Allister followed with a single to right to plate Lappin for the final run.

Stanford pitcher Dana Sorensen (21-6) was practically perfect, allowing only one hit over seven innings with 10 strikeouts on the afternoon. Sun Devil BreDeSanta (9-9) took the loss and finished the game, allowing five hits, four runs, three earned with nine strikeouts.

Cardinal catcher Jessica Allister drew two walks and went 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI. Lauren Lappin had a 1-for-3 effort with a run scored and an RBI.

Stanford is next in action on Tuesday, April 20 in a non-conference doubleheader with St. Mary's College at 2 p.m. in Moraga, Calif.
