Cardinal Open Conference Play With 2-0 Win Over Oregon State

Stanford, Calif. - Senior pitcher Dana Sorensen pitched a complete game two-hitter as the Stanford softball team opened conference play with a 2-0 win over Oregon State tonight in Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 28-7, 1-0 in the Pac-10.

With one out on the scoreboard in the third inning, Jackie Rinehart walked to get things started. Catalina Morris tripled to leftcenterfield, scoring Rinehart. Lauren Lappin hit a slow grounder to the shortstop to score Morris and put Stanford up, 2-0.

Dana Sorensen (16-4) pitched a complete game two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts on the night. OSU's Monica Hoffman took the loss, allowing two hits on three runs over six innings.

Leah Nelson went 1-for-2 at the plate for Stanford. Catalina Morris and Lauren Lappin each went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Morris and Jackie Rinehart each scored a run.

The Cardinal are back in action tomorrow against Oregon at 2 p.m. at Boyd and Jill Smith Stadium in continued conference action.
