Moraga, Calif. - Sophomore pitcher Laura Severson threw a two-hit shutout as the Stanford softball team recorded a 7-0 win over St. Mary's College this afternoon in Moraga, Calif. The Cardinal improve to 35-12 on the season.
Stanford got on the board early as Jackie Rinehart led off the first inning with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Lauren Lappin doubled to leftfield, scoring Rinehart.
The Cardinal added four runs in the third inning. With one out, Katherine Hoffman reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman then stole second. Rinehart then walked. With two outs, Lappin doubled to left centerfield scoring Hoffman and Rinehart. Jessica Allister then homered to centerfield to give the Cardinal a 5-0 lead.
Stanford scored two more in the top of the seventh as Allister hit a double to the rightfield wall, scoring Jackie Hansen and Catalina Morris who both walked earlier in the inning.
Catcher Jessica Allister continued her hot streak going 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored while shortstop Lauren Lappin turned in a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI and a run scored. Jackie Rinehart scored two runs for the Cardinal as well.
In the circle, Cardinal Laura Severson (12-5) picked up the win, scattering two hits over seven innings with six strikeouts. St. Mary's Kate Albaugh took the loss for the Gaels, lasting only 2.2 innings, wtih five runs on three hits.
The Cardinal are next in action on Friday, April 23 in Los Angeles, where they will face ULCA at 1 p.m. in a conference match up.
