Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford softball team fell to Oregon, 1-0, this afternoon at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium in a classic pitchers dual. The Cardinal are now 28-8, 1-1 in the Pac-10, while the Ducks improve to 29-8, 3-0 in conference play.
The lone run in the game came in the top of the second off of a solo homerun by Kristi Leiter.
Sophomore Laura Severson (10-4) took the loss for the Cardinal, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings of play. Oregon's Ani Nyhus pitched a complete game one-hitter with nine strikeouts for the win.
Rightfielder Katherine Hoffman collected Stanford's only hit of the game.
Oregon was led by Beth Boskovich's 2-for-3 day at the plate.
The two teams meet again tomorrow in continued conference action with a 1 p.m. start.
