Stockton, Ca - The second-ranked Stanford water polo team spotted #13 Pacific a 1-0 lead just after the start of the game, but after that, it was all Cardinal with nine straight goals enroute to a 13-3 non-conference win on Sunday.
UOP's Clint McLaughlin found the back of the net less than two minutes into the game. Three-time All-American Tony Azevedo started a 9-0 Cardinal run with a his lone goal of the game just 18 seconeds after McLaughlin's goal. Stanford outscored the Tigers 6-0 in the second quarter and 4-2 in the third period.
In all, eight Cardinal players contributed to the scoring attack, led by Greg Crum's three goals. A day earlier, Crum scored three goals including the game winner against top-ranked and previously unbeaten USC.
Tyler Drake, Sam Tyre and Peter Varellas each added two goals for Stanford which raised its season record to 7-1. Pacific fell to 2-5.
Stanford hosts Princeton on Friday, Oct. 1, at 5:00 p.m.
