Stanford, Ca - The Stanford women's cross country team garnered eight of the top ten spots to easily capture top honors at the USF Invitational on Saturday at Golden Gate Park.
The Cardinal took the top five spots led by Anita Siraki who won the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:20.8. Katy Trotter was second (17:21.1) followed by freshman Shannon Bergstedt (17:21.4), freshman Lindsay Flacks (17:21.7) and Amanda Trotter (17:22.9.). Other Stanford top ten finishers were Jeane Goff (seventh, 17:35.9), freshman Lauren Centrowitz (eighth, 17:48.1) and Julie Allen (ninth, 17:49.6).
The Stanford men, defending NCAA champions, also performed well in their season opener. The Cardinal took the top six places and eight of the top 10 spots. Peter Meindl won the 8,000 meter run in a time of 23:29.2 followed by Jacob Gomez (23:34.0), Jonathan Pierce (23:41.4), Forrest Tahdooahnippah (24:05.3), Rolf Steier (24:09.9) and Steven DeWitt (24:11.1). Other Stanford top 10 finishers were Lauren Jespersen (eighth, 24:14.7) and Evan Fox (tenth, 24:23.8).
Stanford's next event is the Stanford Invitational (Sept. 25).
