Nate Downs Captures MPSF High Bar Championship

Norman, Okla. - Junior Nate Downs took first place in the high bar competition as the Stanford men's gymnastics team wrapped up action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship in Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Sho Nakamori placed second in the floor exercise and freshman David Sender took fourth on rings in the individual event championships for the Cardinal.

Downs, who scored a 9.65 to grab first place, was one of three Stanford gymnasts to finish in the top six of the high bar competition, as Nakamori placed fifth with a 9.1 score and sophomore Dylan Carney took sixth with an 8.8 mark.

Nakamori registered the highest Cardinal score on floor exercise, notching a 9.725 to place second. Freshman Jason Shen came in seventh with an 8.6 score.

Sender scored a 9.625 to take fourth on rings, while sophomore Alex Schorsch finished seventh with a 9.720 mark.

Carney placed fifth on vault with a 9.225 and sophomore Peter Derman captured seventh place on parallel bars with an 8.2 score. The Cardinal did not have a gymnast place in the top eight on the pommel horse.

Stanford finished third at the MPSF team championship on Friday night, with Schorsch capturing first place on rings.

The NCAA men's gymnastics championship will be held in West Point, New York from April 7-9.
