Ashley Purnell Breaks School Record - Indoor 400 Meters

Seattle, Wa - Janice Davis, Ashley Purnell, Ashley Freeman and Nick Sebes each won their respective races during Saturday's competition at the Washington Last Chance Indoor Track & Field Qualifier at the Dempsey Indoor Complex.

This was the last opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships which are slated for March 11-12 at the University of Arkansas.

Davis ran an NCAA provisional best time of 23.81 in the 200 meters. Davis ran a better time this year, a school record 23.70 at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational on Feb. 12.

In the 400 meters, Purnell ran a school record time of 53.57, which beats the NCAA provisional time of 54.40. Her time broke the old school record of 53.76 set by Jayna Smith in 2000.

In the 800 meters, Freeman won the competition with a season-best time of 2:07.21, an NCAA provisional time. Her previous best this year was 2:08.65. It was also the second-best time in school history. Chinny Offor ran a season-best and NCAA provisional best time of 2:08.76.

In men's competition, Nick Sebes won the 400 meters in an NCAA provisional time of 46.91. Sebes had earlier this year ran a school record time of 46.88 at the MPSF Championship. In the mile, Evan Fox and Lauren Jespersen each ran 4:00.00 which was just short of the NCAA automatic qualifying standard of 3:59.30. However, their times were NCAA provisional qualifiers.

Stanford NCAA automatic qualifiers thus far are Ian Dobson in the 5,000 meters (13:45.54), Sara Bei in the 3,000 meters (9:13.86), Alicia Craig in the 5,000 meters (15:54.72), Anita Siraki in the 5,000 meters (16:07.18), Julie Allen in the 5,000 meters, and Erica McLain in the triple jump (45-7 1/4, 13.90m).

Entries to the NCAA's from a list of NCAA provisional qualifiers will be announced Monday. The Stanford list includes Curtis Goehring in the 400 meters (47.04), Russell Brown in the mile (4:01.98), Joaquin Chapa in the mile (4:03.89), Ryan Hall in the 3,000 meters (7:56.74), Neftalem Araia in the 3,000 meters (7:57.89), Jonathan Pierce in the 3,000 meters (8:04.21), the men's distance medley relay team (9:33.49), Arianna Lambie in the mile (4:39.01), Anita Siraki in the 3,000 meters (9:17.68), Amanda Trotter in the 3,000 meters (9:20.56), Alicia Craig in the 3,000 meters (9:27.02), Jeane Goff in the 3,000 meters (9:29.43), the women's 1,600 meter relay team (3:34.92), the women's distance medley relay team (11:07.81), and Erica McLain in the triple jump (20-7, 6.27m).
