Stanford, Calif. - Stanford men's gymnastics, ranked No. 8 in the nation, will head to West Point, N.Y., for the 2005 NCAA Qualifier on the campus of the United States Military Academy. Stanford is coming off a third-place finish at the MPSF Championships behind No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 6 California.
The Cardinal will attempt to qualify for the team championship for the first time since 2002. That season, the Cardinal finished in sixth place in the team championship and two individuals won NCAA titles (Marshall Erwin on rings and Dan Gill on vault). Stanford will compete in Session I at Army, along with top-ranked Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Penn State, No. 9 Minnesota and No. 12 William & Mary.
If Stanford finishes outside the top-three in the Session I Qualifier on Thursday, individuals will still have a chance to compete in the All-Around finals on Friday night. Cardinal student-athletes will also attempt to qualify for the individual event finals on Friday night.
Session I of the NCAA Qualifier is set to begin at 1 p.m., while the NCAA Team Championship and the NCAA Individual Event Finals will start at 7 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, respectively. All times are eastern.
