May 3, 2005

Walnut Creek, Ca - Ian Dobson has been named Pacific-10 Co-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at last weekend's Cardinal Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field.

Dobson ran the fastest 10,000 meters by an American this year with a school record time of 27:59.72. Dobson beat his previous best of 28:15.66 and beat the school record of 28:08.12 by Brad Hauser in 1999.

Dobson's effort easily bested the USA Track & Field Championship qualifying time of 28:40.00. Dobson's time is third all-time for an American collegiate runner at 10,000 meters, and tenth all-time for a collegian.

Dobson's time is also the fifth-best mark all-time in the Pac-10 and just the fifth conference athlete to break the 28-minute barrier.

Dobson, a senior from Klamath Falls, Oregon, is a nine-time All-American at Stanford.

Dobson shared Pac-10 honors with the Arizona State men's 400 meter relay team. ASU clocked a 38.71 in a meet against Arizona and Northern Arizona. Their time is a school record and bettered the 26-year old mark of 38.78 set in 1979. Currently, their time is the fastest in the collegiate ranks and third fastest in the world. It also ranks as the fifth-fastest time in Pac-10 history.
