The 2005 Pacific-10 Conference Track & Field Championships (75th annual for men, 19th annual for women) get underway at UCLA's Drake Stadium on Saturday & Sunday (May 14-15) ... Activities begin Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. ... Admission is $7.00 per day, while tickets for youth/senior citizens/students are $5.00 ... A two-day ticket is available for $12.00 for adults, and $7.00 for youth/senior citizens/students.

Results following each day will be available on the internet on several websites (www.uclabruins.com, www.pac-10.org or directathletics.com) ... The Stanford website, www.gostanford.com, will have a complete story and results on the Cardinal athletes on Saturday and Sunday nights after completion of the day's competition.
Stanford Men
Although not listed as a title contender, Stanford will still field a highly competitive team at the Pac-10 Championship this year ... Several Cardinal athletes are ranked high in the conference standings ... Ian Dobson is among the nation's top collegiate 10,000 meter runners with a top conference time of 27:59.72 ... That time is a school record and fifth-best all-time in the Pac-10 ... Dobson is first (13:27.45) and Ryan Hall second (13:31.58) in the 5,000 meters ... Michael Robertson is the runaway leader in the discus with a school record toss of 202-5 (61.70m) ... Donald Sage (3:41.62), Evan Fox (3:42.27 conversion from one mile), Lauren Jespersen (3:42.59 conversion from one mile) and Joaquin Chapa (3:43.22) rank fourth through seventh in the 1,500 meters ... Brett Gotcher is rated fifth in the 10,000 meters (28:59.27), David Vidal is rated fifth (8:51.53) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, and Solomon Welch is ranked third in the triple jump (51-8 3/4, 15.77m) ... Stanford picked up four points in the team standings with a fifth place finish by Nicholas Taylor at last weekend's Pac-10 Decathlon Championship ... Taylor chalked up a career-best 6,832 points which also is ninth-best in school history.
Stanford Women
The Stanford women will be a prime contender to win the Pac-10 title ... In the last five years, the Cardinal has finished no lower than third place, and in the past two years, Stanford has finished second ... Last year at Tucson, Stanford scored a school recored 153 points in finishing second to UCLA (174.5 points) ... Two years ago at USC, Stanford scored 140 points, 15 points behind conference winner UCLA ... Stanford was helped last year with victories by Sara Bei in the 5,000 meters, Alicia Craig in the 10,000 meters and Jill Camarena in the shot put ... Bei and Craig are back this year, while Camarena has graduated ... Bei and Craig are ranked 1-2 in the Pac-10 in the 5,000 meters with respective times of 15:41.57 and 15:54.72 ... Anita Siraki is ranked fourth (16:07.18) ... Craig, the two-time NCAA champion in the 10,000 meters, will be competing in her first 10,000 meters this year at the conference meet ... Siraki and Julie Allen are ranked second (33:27.04) and fourth (34:26.97) ... Several Stanford athletes are ranked first in the Pac-10 rankings ... Katy Trotter leads the pack in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:18.15), Lindsay Gannaway leads in the high jump (5-10, 1.78m) and freshman Erica McLain is #1 in the triple jump (45-7, 13.90m, indoors) ... Several Stanford athletes also are ranked high in the conference standings ... In the 200 meters, Janice Davis is ranked fifth (23.62), Ashley Purnell and Christine Moschella are ranked third (53.57) and fifth (53.76) in the 400 meters, Ashley Freeman is ranked fourth in the 800 meters (2:06.64), Arianna Lambie is ranked second (4:17.13), Sara Bei is fourth (4:21.66) and Katy Trotter is fifth (4:22.03) in the 1,500 meters, Anita Siraki is fourth in the 5,000 meters (16:07.18), Undine Becker is third in the 400 meter hurdles (59.67), Lindsay Allen and Jeane Goff are ranked second (10:26.71) and fourth (10:32.90) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, the 400 meter relay team is third (44.28), the 1,600 meter relay team is second (3:34.92), Erica McLain is third (20-6 3/4, 6.27m, indoors) in the long jump, freshman Deborah Akinniyi is fourth (41-2 3/4, 12.57m) in the triple jump, and Sarah Hopping is fifth in the hammer (196-3 3/4, 59.84m).
Record Review
Several school records have been set during the 2005 outdoor season ... Sara Hopping is the new school record holder in the hammer (196-4, 59.84m) ... Freshman Erica McLain broke the school record in the triple jump (43-9 1/4, 13.34m) and the freshman school record in the long jump (20-2 1/4, 6.15m) ... Ian Dobson is the new school record holder in the 10,000 meters (27:59.72) ... Dobson's time is the fastest by an American this year, third all-time for an American collegiate runner, and tenth all-time for a collegian ... Dobson's time also is the fifth-best mark all-time in the Pac-10, and just the fifth conference athlete to break the 28-minute barrier ... Junior Michael Robertson broke the school record in the discus with a toss of 202-5 (61.70m) at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Stanford has dominated the distance events at the Pac-10 Championships in recent years ... In the 1,500 meters a Stanford runner (Gabe Jennings from 2000-2002 and Grant Robison in 2003) has won the event four of the past five seasoons ... Two of the last four conference champions in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (Jesse Thomas in 2001 and Ian Dobson in 2003) have been from Stanford ... In the 5,000 meters, three of the past five league champions have been from Stanford (Brad Hauser in 2000, Jonathon Riley in 2002 and Louis Luchini in 2003) ... In the 10,000 meters since 1999, the conference champion has been from Stanford (Nathan Nutter in 1999, Brent Hauser in 2000, Jonathon Riley in 2002 and Louie Luchini in 2003) ...
