NCAA Round of 16 Post-Match Quotes

May 19, 2005

Recap | Notes

Stanford Head Coach Lele Forood
"We played Harvard in the first round of the Team Indoor tournament and the score was 5-2, so we knew we had to respect them. They've had a great season and they're a good team."

"They were a little hurt by the two players that had to pull out (Courtney Bergman at No. 1 and Melissa Anderson at No. 5), but they are a deep team and they have a lot of people that can play well."

"Amber (Liu, the winner of the match-clincher) knows Susanna (Lingman) very well, They're both Southern California girls. They both like the way the other hits the ball so we knew it was just going to be a toe-to-toe battle from the baseline. Susanna is a very good hitter and she struck the ball well, Amber was just a little bit better today."

Harvard Head Coach Gordon Graham
"When we played (Stanford) in February we beat them at No. 1 doubles and what was today No. 5 and 6 singles. That wasn't happening today. They turned it around. We needed those matches to be in this match. We knew we'd have our hands full even if we won those matches."

On Durkin's default at No. 2 singles:
"She's been one of our toughest players all spring, but our season's been very much like this. We've been missing one or two people all year. You can't expect to beat Stanford when you're missing anybody."
