Athens, Ga. - Top-seeded Stanford (24-0) took a 4-0 victory over Harvard this morning in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Cardinal has now won 53-straight matches and 194 of its last 200 duals. Stanford will face Georgia tomorrow morning in the quarterfinals.
Stanford won the doubles point with Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win the first match, 8-3, before Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette worked for the 8-1 win on court two.
In singles, Barnes picked up the first victory after Harvard's Celia Durkin was forced to retire due to injury. Barnes was leading 6-1, 4-0 when Durkin defaulted. Yelsey extended the Cardinal lead to 3-0 when she picked up a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Eva Wang on court six.
Amber Liu clinched the Stanford victory on court one, although Theresa Logar and Whitney Deason were both chasing victories on courts four and six, respectively. Liu, the two-time defending NCAA Singles Champion, posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory to secure the Cardinal victory.
The win today was Stanford's second this season over Harvard and 24th this year. Stanford has won nine-consecutive NCAA Championship matches and 26 of its last 27 postseason duals.
Stanford will play Georgia tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. (ET). The Bulldogs defeated California, 4-2, this morning.
