Moraga, Calif. - The No. 19 ranked Stanford women's lacrosse team got hat tricks from three different players and scored nine first half goals en route to a 14-6 win over UC Davis in the MPSF semifinals in Moraga on Friday afternoon. The Cardinal improves to 12-5 on the season with the win and will take on California in Saturday's MPSF Championship game.

UC Davis got on the board first, as Katie McMahon scored on a free position shot to give the Aggies an early advantage. Stanford equalized just over two minutes later when sophomore Michelle DeChant assisted on a goal by senior Kelsey Twist. The Cardinal then got free position goals from freshman Megan McClain and sophomore Liz Piselli to give the squad a 3-1 lead at the 18:07 mark. Following an Aggie goal from Tiffany Lee, the Cardinal went on a six-goal run to take a commanding advantage. Junior Sarah Bach scored three of the six goals, while freshman Daphne Patterson accounted for a tally and junior Megan Burker assisted on scores by McClain and senior Nina Pantano to push the Stanford lead to 9-2 with just over three minutes remaining in the half. McMahon stemmed the tide for UC Davis, scoring her second goal with 40 seconds left in the period, but the Cardinal took a 9-3 advantage into the intermission.

The second half unfolded much like the first half, with McMahon opening the scoring for UC Davis and Stanford scoring three straight goals to push its advantage to 12-4. Patterson tallied her second score with an unassisted goal and Twist netted two straight goals, with her second coming on DeChant's second assist of the contest. McMahon tallied her fourth goal of the afternoon at the 12:58 mark, but Patterson rounded out her hat trick with a goal seven minutes later. Lee answered back for the Aggies, but Pantano capped the victory with a score at the 28:37 mark to close out the Stanford win.

Bach, Twist, and Patterson all recorded hat tricks for the Cardinal, while McClain and Pantano added two goals each. Burker, DeChant, and Piselli each had two assists on the afternoon, with Piselli adding a goal. McMahon led all scorers with four goals for UC Davis, while Lee pitched in with two scores.

Freshman Laura Shane turned in another outstanding performance in the cage, making eight saves and collecting four ground balls on the afternoon. Junior Kate Horowitz played the last 26:40 in net for the Cardinal, but did not have to make a save. Hilary Harkins played all 60 minutes in the cage for UC Davis and stopped 19 Stanford shots.

Top-seeded Stanford will get a rematch in the MPSF Championship game, as the Cardinal will face off against a California squad that knocked off Denver in the other semifinal contest, 12-9. The Golden Bears edged Stanford in last season's MPSF Championship game by a narrow 11-10 margin, but the Cardinal topped California earlier this season by the same 11-10 score.
