Chestnut Hill, Ma - Freshman Cynthia Barboza tallied eleven kills (.556) and the third-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team collected a .347 hitting percentage to score a 30-19, 30-20, 30-15 victory over Maine during second day action on Saturday at the Boston College Invitational.
Bryn Kehoe collected 32 assists, 13 digs and four blocks.
Head coach John Dunning was able to use his entire roster as Stanford raised its season record to 3-1. Maine fell to 1-4.
For the second straight day, Stanford's defense held the opposition to a minus hitting percentage. Maine hit -.053 while a day earlier, Boston College hit -.049.
Despite losing earlier in the day to Syracuse, Maine was able to hold its own against the Cardinal in game one. The game was tied, 13-13, but then the Cardinal scored 13 of the next 14 points to take a 26-14 lead. Stanford ended game one with a .314 hitting percentage while Maine checked in at -.049.
The second game was a bit different as Stanford raced to a 10-4 lead, and Maine could not get any closer than five points.
Game three was more of the same as Stanford used its size and power over the much smaller Black Bears to take a 16-5 lead. Maine battled back to within six points, 19-13, but then Stanford put its game back in high gear and used a 11-2 rally to close the match. Stanford concludes play in the Boston College Invitational on Saturday against Syracuse (2:00 p.m. et).

Foluke Akinradewo was nearly unstoppable as the Cardinal freshman tallied a .714 hitting percentage in leading the Cardinal to a 30-15, 30-15, 30-16 victory over Boston College ... Akinradewo collected a team-high 16 kills in 21 attempts along with six blocks ... Stanford hit .316 while holding the Eagles to -.049 ... A BC and Northeast record crowd of 2,127 watched the Stanford-BC match ... That crowd total was more than the TOTAL attendance (1,480) for BC last year.

You know you're on a long road trip when you sit down at the breakfast table at the team's hotel, and ask someone what day it is ... Some ponder the question for a second, and one person says "I think it's Saturday" ... No, it's FRIDAY, in Newton, Mass, Stanford's third day on an eleven day road trip to the East Coast and Midwest ... The women's volleyball team travels first class ... The team hotel hugs the famed Charles River in Newton, a short distance from Boston College where the team is playing three matches in three days ... The breakfast is healthy and plentiful, while the team will eat lunch at "99" Restaurant which is near Brandeis University ... The lunch is excellent ... It seems like every where you go, there are stories about current and former Stanford athletes ... Friday morning's front page of the Boston Globe sports section contains a huge story on the life of Tiger Woods, who is playing in a golf tournament in Norton ... Interesting reading which includes the fact that Woods has made $53,735,411 in 195 PGA Tour events since he left Stanford, and that doesn't include the money he has earned from numerous endorsements ... Friday's USA Today contains a story about former Cardinal baseball star Carlos Quentin, who has set a Pacific Coast League record for being hit in a season (28 times this year), and 43 times last year (a minor league record) ... What's disappointing is that there is no mention in the Boston Globe concerning Stanford's volleyball victory over Boston College before a record crowd (2,127) on Thursday night.
