Stanford Wins Two Games At NorCal Championships

Berkeley, Ca - The Stanford men's water polo team has advanced to the championship semifinals of the 2005 NorCal Open at the Spieker Aquatics Complex on the University of California campus.

Stanford will face the USC Trojans on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The winner will advance to the championship game at 4:10 p.m. against either defending NCAA champion UCLA or California. The third place game will take place at 3:00 p.m.

The Cardinal advanced to the semfinals with two victories on Saturday. In the first game, Stanford defeated Air Force, 15-5. Thomas Hopkins, William Hindle-Katel and Michael Bury each scored three goals to lead the Cardinal attack. Seven different Cardinal players scored at least one goal. Freshman James Sandman collected ten saves in goal for the Cardinal.

In the second game, Stanford edged UC San Diego, 8-7, in sudden death overtime. J.J. Garton tallied two goals. Goalie Sandy Hohener collected eight saves.

Stanford now is 10-2 on the season.
