James Pade each won two matches on Oct. 22 at the ITA Region 8 Tournament in Santa Clara, CA to continue on to Sunday's quarterfinals. Corkery, one of the top returnees this year for the Cardinal, defeated Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong of Santa Clara 6-2, 6-0 in the morning match, and then continued his strong play against Thomas Bieri of Oregon, winning 6-1, 6-3.
Pade also was successful in his matches, defeating James Redpath of Portland 6-2, 6-3, and then following it up with another strong performance against Klaus Jank of Washington, winning 6-0, 6-4. Pade has only lost a total of 11 games in three outings in the tournament.
In doubles action, the team of Chris Rasmussen and James Wan got by Chad Faulkand Bryon Weinberg of Hawaii, 8-4 to advance to the Round of 16. There they will meet the number 1 seed in the tournament from University of Washington, Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic.
