DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - Kyle Brucculeri's 3-pointer capped a late 9-2 run as UC Davis (1-4) beat Stanford,64-58, on Sunday evening.
Stanford broke out to a 12-point lead midway through the first half.
But the Aggies, who are in the third year of a four-year transition from Division II to Division I, outhustled the Cardinal down the stretch.
Stanford (2-3), picked second in the Pac-10, had a tough weekend, also losing at Montana on Friday.
After Tim Morris' tied the game at 48 for Stanford with a free throw with about 5 minutes left, the Aggies went on their run. Phil Rasmussen's basket gave the Aggies the lead for good and after Taj Finger missed the front end of a one-on-one, Vince Oliver scored on a pretty drive to make it a four-point game.
After a basket by Morris, Rommel Marentez scored on a floater in the lane and Brucculeri hit the 3 that send the crowd of 5,386 into a frenzy.
Rasmussen scored 18 points, Thomas Juillerat added 15 and Oliver had 12 for the Aggies, who had lost all 12 previous meetings against the Cardinal.
Matt Haryasz led Stanford with 20 points and Tim Morris added 15. Stanford shot just 1-for-15 from 3-point range.
Rasmussen's three-point play early in the second half tied the game at 34, who trailed by 12 in the first half. Jason Haas then fouled Vince Oliver on a 3-pointer and Oliver hit all three free throws to give the Aggies their first lead at 39-36.
Stanford responded with five straight points before Brucculeri out UC Davis back in front 42-41 with a 3-pointer with 8:28 to go.
Stanford was hurt badly by poor foul shooting, missing seven of its first nine attempts in the second half.
Stanford started strong, hitting nine of its first 12 shots to break out to a 20-8 lead. But UC Davis responded with a 10-2 run and kept the game close for the rest of the half.
The Aggies were helped when Haryasz accidentally tipped in Oliver's miss for the Aggies when Brucculeri blocked a shot at the other end.
Stanford star point guard Chris Hernandez committed two fouls in the first 1:48 of the game and sat out the rest of the half. He finished 1-for-9 in the game with only three points.
