Stanford, Calif. - Pacific scored two runs in the top of the seventh to hand the No. 5 Stanford softball team their first loss of the season this afternoon at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. Final score was 4-3. Stanford drops to 3-1 on the season while the Tigers improve to 3-1.
Pacific got on the board first, scoring a single run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Jennifer Curtier.
The Cardinal scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Leah Nelson hit a triple to rightfield, scoring Lauren Lappin and Anna Beardman. It was Nelson's second triple of the season.
The Tigers tied it up with a run in the top of the sixth, then scored two more in the seventh on a double by Michelle Annunciation with two outs on the board.
Stanford's Lauren Lappin doubled in the bottom of the seventh to score pinch runner Megan Bordelon to make the score 3-4.
Lappin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the game while teammate Leah Nelson also recorded two hits and added two RBI. Jackie Rinehart had a 2-for-4 day at the plate for the Cardinal.
Laura Severson (2-1) took the loss in the circle for Stanford, allowing four runs on seven hits over seven innings of work. She notched eight strikeouts as well. Natalie King (2-0) picked up the win for the Tigers, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts.
