Stanford, Calif. - The second-ranked Stanford Cardinal (7-1) had nine players score this evening in their victory over #10 Pacific (7-5) at the Avery Aquatic Center, 14-4. Shutting out the first quarter with a 4-0 scoring run by four different players, Stanford secured the lead for the entirety of the game. Peter Varellas had the first goal two minutes into the game, followed by a goal by J.J. Garton, Marcello Pantuliano, and William Hindle-Katel.
Pacific came out with two goals to Stanford's three in the second period. Stanford's Michael Bury scored at 5:38, Chris Jacobson netted one, and Thomas Hopkins scored his first goal of the game. Pacific's Will McLaughlin and Will Milcovich each scored in the second.
Stanford scored three goals in the third period; Varellas with his second, Hopkins with his second on a penalty shot, and Forrest Schwartz netted his first. Clint McLaughlin scored Pacific's one goal in the third period, and Dominic Desoto scored the Tigers' final goal of the game in the fourth. Varellas, Hindle-Katel, Bury, and Michael McCaffery with his debut on the season, each scored in the fourth period to cap off the victory, 14-4.
Stanford goalie Beau Stockstill finished the first three periods with seven saves, and James Sandman finished the game at goal. Pacific started Marko Popovic at goal, earning him five saves before being ejected from the game in the third period. David Andrus finished as Pacific's goalie with two saves. The Cardinal face Pacific in their house October 8, at 12:00pm.
Stanford visits Cal this Saturday afternoon, October 1, at 1:00pm. The Cardinal return home for the Alumni Game Sunday, October 9, at 11:00am.
