Los Angeles, Calif. - Stanford dropped a conference match against No. 7 UCLA tonight at Pauley Pavilion with game scores of 28-30, 22-30, 30-21, and 28-30. With the loss, Stanford's record moves to 4-11 overall and 2-7 in the MPSF. UCLA improves to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the MPSF.
Stanford hit .358 for the match and out-blocked the Bruins 11-8, but allowed the Bruins to rally back from a three-point deficit in the fourth game to drop the match. Seniors Ben Reddy and Chris Ahlfeldt were strong for the Cardinal. Reddy led both teams with 27 kills (.500) and Ahlfeldt added 11 (.476) and a match-high seven total blocks. Senior Clayton Williams and sophomore Matt Ceran each recorded 12 kills.
"This was a tough match to lose," commented head coach Don Shaw. "We played well tonight but just weren't able to do quite enough to finish off game four, or the match."
UCLA was led by senior Damien Scott who pounded out 17 kills (.324) to go along with two total blocks and an ace. Junior Paul George also recorded 17 kills (.387).
Stanford will travel to UC Irvine tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. match against the third-ranked Anteaters.
