Stanford Takes Second At Pacific Coast Classic

Oakland, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford posted a team score of 216.075 last night to take second at the Pacific Coast Classic. Top-ranked Oklahoma won the event with a team total of 217.300 and Cal finished third with 212.650. Michigan was fourth with a score of 208.600, Iowa was fifth (207.200), Minnesota was sixth (206.575) and William & Mary rounded out the team scoring in seventh with 200.200.

Junior Dylan Carney claimed an individual event victory on the high bar with a score of 9.650, tying his season-best at Penn State last weekend. Oklahoma's Jonathan Horton won the event with a 9.750. Sophomore David Sender was fourth with a score of 9.350. Stanford placed two more gymnasts in the top ten on the high bar with senior Nate Downs tied for fifth (9.250) and sophomore Sho Nakamori tied for seventh (9.200).

Carney posted another season-best on the floor exercise with a score of 9.600, good for second place behind Oklahoma's Reed Pitts (9.700). Sophomore Sho Nakamori tied for eighth with 9.200. Cardinal juniors Peter Derman and Alex Schorsch tied for second on the rings with scores of 9.550, behind Horton (9.750). Sender also finished in the top ten on the event with a score of 9.300 for seventh place.

On the parallel bars, sophomore Jason Shen was third (9.250), followed by Sender in fourth (9.200). Minnesota's Jacob Lee won the event with a score of 9.350. Nakamori was Stanford's high scorer on the vault with 9.100 for fifth place and Carney placed ninth with 8.900, trailing top-finisher Russ Czeschin of Oklahoma with a 9.250. Sender posted the Cardinal's top score on the pommel horse (8.650), tying for sixth place behind top finisher Tim McNeil of Cal (9.300).

Oklahoma's Horton claimed the all-around victory with a six-event total of 55.550. Sender was second with a total of 54.450 and Nakamori was 10th with 43.850.

The Cardinal men return to action this weekend at home against No. 6 Michigan on Saturday, March 4 (7:00 pm).
