Stanford Takes Second At MPSF Championship

Colorado Springs, Colo. - No. 2 Stanford Men's Gymnastics finished second to No. 1 Oklahoma tonight at the MPSF Championship, 219.175-217.075. Sophomore David Sender claimed an individual victory on the vault with a score of 9.550, leading the Cardinal to a team win on the event (37.100). Stanford's runner-up performance is the program's highest conference finish since before the 2001 season.

The Cardinal finished second to Oklahoma on the floor exercise, 37.300-36.650, led by Sender's second-place score of 9.500. Senior Sean Doolan tied for fifth with a score of 9.200 and sophomore Sho Nakamori tied for seventh with 9.100 to round out Stanford's top-ten finishers on the event. Senior Nissen-Emery finalist Nate Downs finished eighth on the pommel horse with a score of 8.575, followed by Sender in tenth with 8.400.

On the still rings, Stanford posted a team total of 37.650 to top-finisher Oklahoma's 38.150. Junior Alex Schorsch led the Cardinal ring campaign with a third-place score of 9.600, followed by freshman Bryant Hadden tied for fifth with 9.450. Junior Peter Derman was eighth with 9.400 and Nakamori was ninth with 9.200.

Sender led the Cardinal to a top team finish on the vault after posting a score of 9.550, tying his season best. Junior Dylan Carney nabbed the second spot for the Cardinal with 9.400, his second-best score of the season. Doolan tied for eighth with 9.200.

Stanford finished second to California on the high bar, 37.350-36.150, putting five gymnasts in the top ten finishers and tallying its highest score of the season on the event. Sophomore Jason Shen was fifth with 9.150, while Hadden was seventh with 9.100. Sender earned eighth place with 9.000, Downs was ninth with 8.900 and sophomore Chris Harper was tenth with 8.825. The Cardinal also finished third on the high bar with 36.300, led by Carney's second-place performance of 9.450.

Sender tied for second all-around with Oklahoma's Jonathan Horton with a score of 54.100. California's Timothy McNeill finished first all-around with 55.325.

No. 2 Stanford will now travel to the NCAA Championships in Norman, Okla. on April 6-8.
