Stanford, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford Men's Gymnastics downed No. 7 Michigan, 217.150-207.500, in the final home meet of the year. The Cardinal took individual victories on five events, including a sweep of the top three finishers on the still rings, pommel horse and parallel bars. Junior Alex Schorsch posted a season-high 9.750 to win the still rings.
Sophomore Sho Nakamori opened the evening with a second-place finish for the Cardinal on the floor exercise, posting a score of 9.350 to follow Michigan's Luke Bottke in first with 9.450. Sean Doolan tied for fourth on the event with a 9.250.
On the pommel horse, Brice Rolston led a sweep of the top five places with a score of 9.050. Senior Nate Downs followed with a 8.950 for second, and Nakamori posted a 8.500 for third place. Chris Harper was fourth with 8.400 and Jason Shen was fifth with 8.300.
Schorsch tallied an outstanding 9.750 on the rings to lead another Cardinal sweep, topping his previous season best of 9.700 at Penn State. Freshman Bryant Hadden followed up with an impressive 9.650 for second place, and Peter Derman rounded out the top three with a score of 9.600. Stanford's team score of 38.050 on the rings was the team's best this season.
Junior Dylan Carney took the individual victory on the vault with a score of 9.600, followed by Michigan's Drew Digiore in second (9.500) and Dan Rais in third (9.250). Stanford's Jason Shen finished fourth with 9.200 and Sean Doolan took fifth place with a score of 9.100.
The Cardinal collected another sweep of the top three places on the parallel bars, led by Harper with a 8.900. Hadden and Shen tied for second with 8.500 and Downs nabbed fifth with 8.350. Carney tallied his second individual win of the day on the high bar with a score of 9.650. Nate Downs followed closely with a 9.500 and Michigan's Joe Cantrambone took third with 9.250.
Shen was the Cardinal's only gymnast to complete all six events, winning the all-around title with a combined score of 52.300. Michigan's Ralph Rosso finished second all-around with a total of 49.300 and Gerry Signerelli was third with 48.250.
Stanford travels to No. 1 Oklahoma for one final dual meet on Saturday, March 11 (7:00 pm) before squaring off at the MPSF Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. on March 24-25.
