Cardinal Women Tied For Seventh At NCAA West Regional

Auburn, Wash. - The Stanford women's golf team shot a 15-over 303 on the first day of competition at the 2006 NCAA West Regional and are tied for seventh overall. Cardinal Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana fired a two-over 74 to lead the team and is tied for 22nd individually.

The 24th-ranked Washington Huskies shot even-par 288 in the first round, tying UCLA for the lead at the 21-team event. The Huskies and Bruins hold a one stroke over Purdue (1-over 289).

Kelly Husted carded a three-over 75 this afternoon and is tied for 30th heading into tomorrow's second round. Teammate Lauren Todd is one stroke back at four-over 76 and tied for 38th. Freshman Mari Chun checks in tied for 55th with a six-over 78 while Ki-Shui Liao is tied for 69th with a seven-over 79.

UW senior Paige Mackenzie led all individuals in round one, shooting 4-under 68. The 2006 Pac-10 Champion leads teammate Amber Prange and Arkansas' Amanda McCurdy (both 3-under 69) by one stroke. Three others are tied for fourth, three strokes back at 1-under 71.

The top eight teams from the West Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, May 23-26. The top two individuals who are not members of advancing teams will also be invited to the Championships.

The second round of the West Regional begins at 8:30 a.m. PT on Friday.
