Malibu, Calif. -The Stanford men's volleyball team (1-4, 0-1 MPSF) opened up conference play with a loss to the defending National Champions Pepperdine (1-0, 1-0 MPSF).
Senior Ben Reddy was the kill leader for the Cardinal, posting 17 kills on the night. Senior Chris Ahlfeldt led the team with a .440 hitting percentage, converting his 25 attempts into 14 kills. Junior Brian Lindberg led the Cardinal with 12 digs on the night. Senior Jeremy Jacobs dished out 42 assists for the match.
The Cardinal battled back in the third game of the night by combining for a team hitting percentage of .394, but was unable to hold onto the momentum in the fourth game. The Waves were impressive offensively, not falling below a .350 team hitting percentage in each of the four games. All-American Andy Hein led the way for the Waves, hitting .737 for the match with 15 kills.
"Our team battled very hard tonight, particularly our middle blockers Chris Ahlfeldt and Matt Ceran," said head coach Don Shaw. "We will look to build off the improvement we showed tonight, and take it into tomorrow night's match with USC."
The Cardinal will remain on the road as they battle No. 12 USC tomorrow night at 7:00PM.
