Los Angeles, Ca - The fifth-ranked Stanford men's water polo team scored victories over Pepperdine (7-3) and Pacific (14-6) to capture fifth place honors on Sunday afternoon at the Southern California Tournament at USC.
In Sunday's first game at the Coliseum Pool, Tyler Drake and Drac Wigo each scored two goals to carry the Cardinal to the victory over 13th-ranked Pepperdine. Later in the day for fifth place honors in the tournament, Drake tallied a career-high six goals ot lead Stanford to a 14-6 decision over sixth-ranked Pacific. Michael Bury and J.J. Garton each added two goals while goalkeeper Sandy Hohener tallied eight saves.
Stanford finished with a 3-1 record over the two-day tournament. On Saturday, the Cardinal opened the day with a 10-7 victory over 14th-ranked Long Beach State. Freshman Drac Wigo scored three goals to lead the Cardinal attack. Will Hindle-Katel and Tyler Drake each added a pair of goals. A little later in the day, third-ranked UCLA scored its third victory of the year over the Cardinal with a 9-6 victory. Janson Wigo and Tyler Drake each scored two goals for the Cardinal.
Stanford raises its season record to 9-5. The Cardinal travels to Pepperdine next Saturday (Oct. 21, Noon) and at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday (Oct. 22, Noon).
