Malibu, Ca - For the second time in the last six days, the fourth-ranked Stanford men's water polo team faced eleventh-ranked Pepperdine, and once again the Cardinal scored a victory, this time an 8-6 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation verdict at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
Michael Bury, Drac Wigo and Tyler Drake scored two goals apiece to lead the Cardinal attack.
Stanford jumped to a 4-1 first period lead, thanks in part to two goals by Bury.
Pepperdine cut the Stanford lead to 4-2 early in the second period, but scores by Drake and Ryan McCarthy pushed the Stanford lead to 6-2 at halftime.
Pepperdine chopped the Stanford lead to two goals, 7-5, heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.
Will Hindle-Katel pushed the Cardinal back up by three, 8-5, with Stanford's second 6-on-5 man advantage of the afternoon with seven minutes remaining.
Stanford now has a three game winning streak to increase its season record to 10-5 and 2-1 in the MPSF. Pepperdine fell to 10-12 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Cardinal travels to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at noon.
