Dallas, Texas - Stanford's Tanner Gardner dropped a 4-1 decision to top-ranked Sam Hazewinkel of Oklahoma today at the All-Star Classic in Dallas, Texas. Gardner, ranked fifth in the nation, became the second all-time Stanford wrestler to be selected for the elite competition.
Gardner, who was 8-0 going into the exhibition, finished eighth at the 2006 NCAA Championships at 125 pounds and became Stanford's 13th All-American.
"Tanner wrestled tough, but made two mistakes that cost him the match," said Head Coach Kerry McCoy. "It's good to see things now will help him later when it really counts."
Gardner and the Cardinal return to action Dec. 1-2 at the Las Vegas Invitational.
