Irvine, Ca - The top-ranked and unbeaten USC men's water polo team beat fourth-ranked Stanford in the championship semfinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament on Saturday afternoon at UC Irvine's Anteater Aquatics Complex.
USC built a 4-1 halftime lead and after Drac Wigo scored the lone goal of the third quarter to draw the Cardinal within 4-2, USC's Juan Delgadillo scored with 5:01 left in the fourth quarter for a 5-2 lead before Janson Wigo closed out the scoring with 2:01 remaining.
Sandy Hohener collected 12 saves for the Cardinal.
USC has now won 44 consecutive games dating back to last year. The NCAA record is 51 set by Stanford (1985-87).
Stanford will conclude its 2006 season on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against third-ranked UCLA.
