Davis, Ca - Janson Wigo and Ryan Fortune each scored two goals to lead the fourth-ranked Stanford men's water polo team to a 9-4 victory over No. 14 UC Davis in a non-league game Sunday afternoon.
Seven different Stanford players scored at least one goal to help lead the Cardinal to its 14th win of the season. Jimmie Sandman collected 12 saves in goal, six of them in the third quarter.
The Cardinal struck first as Wigo opened the game with a 6-on-5 goal 53 seconds into the game to give the Cardinal a 1-0 lead. The Aggies tied the score moments later on a penalty goal. Another man-up goal by Sage Wright made the score 2-1 in favor of the Cardinal after one period.
Stanford scored their third straight man-up goal under a minute into the second period. Stanford ended the half with another goal to push their lead to 4-1.
Stanford broke the game open in the third period with three goals, including one 6-on-5 score.
Stanford converted four 6-on-5 goals off six chances in the win.
Stanford returns home to the Avery Aquatic Center next Saturday (Nov. 11, Noon) for a game against UC Irvine. On Sunday (Nov. 12, Noon), the Cardinal hosts Santa Clara.
